Keep busy in March - April

Friday February 28, 2014

That was last week’s breaking news: March will be cold and snowy. It was -20 last weekend during ‘Montreal en lumière’ festival and the famous ‘Nuit blanche’, and happily it didn’t stop Montreal to celebrate, because that is one of the things we do the best!

Now, we want to take care of you during your stay and asked our concierge about all the best indoor activities you can enjoy while waiting for spring to (finally) arrive!

  • Until May 4th, Montreal Fine Arts Museums presents an exclusive exhibition about Peter Doig’s Montreal-born painter, ‘No Foreign Lands’. Nostalgic and travel-reminiscent, the exhibition unfolds like a journey, a descent into the secrets of Doig’s creative process and into the imagination that inhabits his canvases and makes them so evocative. This is a must see, before the big summer hit at the Fine Arts Museum: ‘Fabergé, Jewellers to the csars’

  • When travelling with kids, it’s not always easy to find activities that please everyone. We often recommend the ‘Pointe à Callière’ museum: a few steps from the St Paul Hotel near Old Port, it is one of the museums that showcases the best exhibitions, accessible for the entire family. This year, ‘Pirates or privateers’ takes people on an adventure (and a life-sized ship!) discovering the incredible story of the sailors who scoured the St. Lawrence River in the days of New France.

  • Montreal has the Centre Bell, the Place des Arts and many other musical / sports venues. What is going on at the moment that could be of interest to you: Disney on Ice, Black Sabbath, James Blunt, Cher, Chicago, Robin/Claudel by the ballet, Ravel’s Bolero by the OSM (Orchestra Symphonique de Montréal),…ask us for the complete list and we’ll be happy to assist you pick your show!

  • Speaking of OSM, we invite you to test a brand new musical / visual experience:  at the Société des Arts  Technologiques, an immersive musical film will be showing in the Satosphere from February 19 to March 21, 2014 and will take you right into the world of Harmonielehre, the piece by American composer John Adams, played by OSM. We really enjoyed it.

  • Last but not least, did you know that Montreal recently unveiled one of the most avant garde planetarium in the world? Why not take advantage of cold days and low season to give it a try? During the summer season it’s often packed,  given the proximity of the Olympic Stadium, Biodome, Botanical Garden and Insectarium.

These are just a few suggestions, and remember that if you are looking for accommodations options in Old Montreal, we offer the ‘Sweet Deal’ promotion by Visit Montreal: -50% on the second night, plus a coupons booklet offering many discounts in museums, activities, and shops. So hurry up, you have until April 30th to take advantage of this interesting offer!
